Activities & Excursion Tips

Summer

Hamburg in summer: Discover our Hanseatic city with selected tips from our Wedina team.

Water light concerts in the park

Let the day end perfectly in a romantic mood. The large water light organ is played live while colorfully lit water fountains move in sync with the music. During the summer season, the water light concerts on the water organ in Planten un Blomen take place daily. Start is at 10 pm on the park lake. Admission is free of charge.

For the younger visitors or if you already have another program for the evening, the water games are also available in the afternoon at 4 and 6 pm. Here, however, without music and without light.

Walk on the Elbe beach

When the heat in the city is oppressive and the longing for sand and a cool breeze is growing, many Hamburgers disappear to the Elbe beach to let their soul dangle. The Elbe beach is perfect for a nice walk along the Elbe River downstream or to relax. The best way is to take ferry 62 from Landungsbrücken to Museumshafen Oevelgönne and start the walk there. In some places you can also cool off by putting your feet in the Elbe and sharing the water with the big boats. A true highlight.

Discover Alster canals

Did you know that Hamburg has more bridges than Venice? Accordingly, there are also countless waterways. Not only the Alster tours are a nice way to discover the Hamburg waters, but also by pedal boat, canoe or rowing boat.
Explore idyllic canals, the quaint Alsterlauf or even the Außenalster. There are many different boat rentals, whether right outside the door or more hidden around the corner. Please feel free to contact us and we will advise you individually.

Small tip: Visit the Cafe Canale for a little refreshment or an ice cream. Order directly from the water

Zeise Open Air Cinema

Every year at summertime, the courtyard of the historic Altona Town Hall is transformed into an open-air cinema. Every evening during the months of July and August there are different films to watch in an open air feeling. Since there are only limited seats, it is advised to purchase tickets at the presale. If Hamburg’s weather typically throws a wrench in the works, the experience will be moved to the cozy Zeise 1 cinema. So you can still enjoy an evening at the movies.
