Harald Welzer

Harald Welzer, born in 1958 in Bissendorf near Hanover, studied sociology, political science and literature at the University of Hanover, where he received his doctorate in sociology in 1988. He habilitated in social psychology in 1993 and in sociology in 2001. Welzer was director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Memory Research (CMR) and head of various subprojects of the research focus KlimaKultur at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities in Essen. Furthermore, he was professor of social psychology at the private University of Witten/Herdecke. Welzer is currently director of Futurzwei – Stiftung Zukunftsfähigkeit and professor of transformation design at the University of Flensburg. He also teaches at the University of St. Gallen.
