Doris Knecht

Doris Knecht, born in 1966 in Vorarlberg, is a columnist (“Kurier,” “Falter”) and writer. She lives with her family in Vienna and in the Waldviertel.

About the book:

One woman – one message – one uncertainty. In her new novel, Doris Knecht writes about family secrets and the fatal consequences of contempt for women and digital violence. “Die Nachricht” is about women whose sovereignty is constantly being called into question – and about the lies we tell the very people closest to us. Four years after her husband’s death, Ruth lives alone in the house in the country where the family was once happy. The children have long since had their own lives, while Ruth learns to appreciate being alone. Until one day she receives an anonymous Messenger message from a person who seems to know more about her past than Ruth herself. Doris Knecht writes about a woman who suddenly becomes the persecuted, and once again proves to be a virtuoso skeptic of interpersonal relationships.
