Dilek G\u00fcng\u00f6r was born in Schw\u00e4bisch Gm\u00fcnd in 1972. She completed her translation studies in English and Spanish at Gutenberg University Mainz in Germersheim and worked as a journalist for the Berliner Zeitung from 1998 to 2003. In 2004, she completed a master’s degree in Race and Ethnic Studies at the University of Warwick, England. Her columns continue to appear in the Berliner Zeitung. During her visit to Hamburg, she also spent a night at the Literaturhotel Wedina and signed a book, which has now found a place in the library. <\/div>\n<\/div>\n

About the book:<\/p>\n

When Ipek goes to visit her father for a long weekend, she knows that he will be waiting for her in the car at the station square and will not meet her at the train. Arriving at her parents’ house, she sits in her former nursery, listening to him in the garden, in the house, making tea. The closeness that united child and father has been lost to them a little more with each passing year, and along with the closeness, the common language. Ipek is a journalist, she has learned to ask questions, but she is powerless in the face of the silence between her and her father.Dilek G\u00fcng\u00f6r describes the rapprochement of a daughter with her father, who came to Germany from Turkey as a so-called guest worker in the 1970s.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
